A sparkler
I'd try to light it time and time again.
The rain would pour, the fire would not catch.
And if it could talk, it would tell me
"I am nothing but cold and gray,
seek in others the vibrant warmth I don't hold,
put me down, and let the flood carry me"
It was incapable,
Incapable of knowing how bright it could shine,
Incapable of knowing how much joy it could bring,
How it could clear the skies and halt the wind.
I'd pray for a spark, so it would see itself as I do.
I'd speak to it, hoping my soul's words will reach it.
I'd say
I'll show you how beautiful you are,
I will not seek elsewhere, I will not put you down,
For in my eyes, you have been eternally lit.
Wandering endlessly in this dark desert,
It was in you that I found my guiding light,
Shining in the distance, I'd see your display.
I'd follow that sight of yours along the horizon,
And in reaching you I found my oasis.
Nowhere else, not in this desert,
Not in the vast universe beyond these thick clouds,
Will there be beauty like yours.
I will keep striking at you,
And once you're lit, you will realize
The sky has been clear all along,
You will blanket this desert with your warm light, and it will bloom.
And I will be hypnotized by your sparkles' dance,
I'd see in them your laughter, your tears, and your love.
And when the hour hand nears 12,
When your glow turns to a dim orange,
The sun will set over our horizon.
And I will carry your warmth with me,
Your spark will not extinguish.
